Building something that is the first of its kind is just fun.

Recently a client came to Lyman Morse with a revolutionary winch design created to solve the problem of overheating due to resistance caused by high voltage electrical cable being tightly wound and layered.   With an internal cooling system that leeches cool water through the cables, a ‘bath tub’ style base that can be filled with water if recycling of the water or additional cooling is needed – the resulting product built at Lyman Morse solved some critical problems in the industry.

Built to power an ROV that will survey underground water pipes, this winch will supply 4.5 miles of 3000V cable, delivering maximum HP to the ROV without the need to be shut down for expensive ‘cooling off’ periods.
